~ The first know inhabitants of the county were the Lenni-Lennape Indians

~ In 1820, Colonel Robert Johnson, a prominent citizen, ate several tomatoes on the Courthouse steps in a public act to dispel the notion they were poisonous. This event is credited with helping to establish the tomato as one of the County’s staple products.
